The project

This project was for the construction of a modular medical centre.

The centre incorporates a GP practice and small physiotherapy gym and provides a community health service to the local area, including speech and language therapy services, podiatry, physiotherapy and other clinics. The impressive interior includes more than 60 rooms, and has a large open-plan office area, a central reception and shared waiting and social spaces.

The project also included all substructure works, all external works including drainage and services, the construction of a main entrance canopy, landscaping, and the construction of a car park.

Particular attention was paid to keeping the local residential neighbourhood informed of activities. All deliveries to site were scheduled to arrive between 9.00 am and 4.00 pm to minimise disruption to neighbours.

Modular construction

The two-storey modular building was manufactured, delivered and erected by the specialist sub-contractor ModularUK. ModularUK has established partnerships with many NHS Trusts, and the units meet all appropriate building regulations to meet NHS standards.

Offsite manufacture offers many advantages over traditional build, including higher levels of quality control at each stage of the construction process, a faster build programme to ensure earlier occupancy, as well as less snagging and minimal disruption on site. This building comprised of 29 individual modular elements, which were delivered to site to be constructed.
