100 Queen Street was crowned Best Refurbished and Recycled Workplace at the Scottish BCO Awards shortly after ISG completed the Cat A fit out and two-storey extension.
The regal development is now worthy of its city centre location with stunning Grade A office accommodation including two new penthouse floors.
Spanning six floors with open plan office spaces and four retail units at ground and basement levels, the finished scheme covers an impressive 64,000 sq ft.
Originally built in the 1920s, the building required substantial structural alternations to accommodate the additional weight of the two-storey extension.
As well as work to allow the building to expand, our team was also tasked with M&E installations and works to reconfigure the existing space to accommodate the new retails units.
Working on a tight site on one of the busiest streets in Glasgow, above live retail units, also posed challenges for our teams.
The team also undertook alterations to the top floor plate in preparation for construction. This included the removal and replacement of existing curtain walling facade, wall and roof cladding, and the relocation of the plant room.
To deliver the rooftop extension, we erected cantilever scaffolding and a concrete base in the basement. This base, with 15m deep piling, was designed to hold the crane for the 26 weeks that it was on site.
As the scheme was delivered within a live environment, the existing basement access route through the building to neighbouring properties was maintained during the works.
“We are absolutely delighted that the whole team involved in this project has been recognised by the BCO in producing what some regard as one of Glasgow’s most compelling Grade A office buildings in a commanding location overlooking Royal Exchange Square, directly opposite the Gallery of Modern Art. This award is significant for a building that keeps on delivering..”
