Overview

ISG provided the construction services for the new Spa and Gymnasium in the Sultan Ismail Shangri-La. This marked a significant upgrade for the hotel, transforming it into a five-star facility. The works, including substantial demolition of masonry walls, were completed in a live hotel operational environment. As such, special focus was placed on liaising with the hotel to ensure that disruption was kept to a minimum at all times.

Weekly and daily scheduling was agreed with the hotel management and black out times were pre-agreed to ensure a zero presence. The project was completed on schedule, inclusive of a seven day no work period (due to VIP hotel visits), pre-agreed between ISG and the hotel. The re-sequencing and incremental resourcing was maintained to ensure that the spa was ready for a pre-Christmas launch.

The Project

Covering nearly 10,000 sq ft, the fit out included over 3,000 sq ft of gymnasium space with a full suite of exercise machines, specialist and free weights. At the client’s request separate spas were constructed for male and female guests. Each one of these contains treatment rooms, lounge areas, spa pools, sauna, Jacuzzis and WC’s. The whole setup was fronted by a new reception area with spacious changing rooms and a group exercise and yoga room.
