Building strength

As much as we value dynamic delivery, we also strive to create an exceptional delivery dynamic. The relationships we form with our customers over the life of a project and beyond ensure we are ready and responsive to your needs

Rapidly changing times call for fresh thinking rooted in an understanding of your organisational goals. That's why we approach every project we undertake from the perspective of you, our customer. Our dedicated Agility team, who specialises in sub-50,000 sq ft fit out services, is a direct reflection of that commitment. We provide anytime projects and everyday service to meet universities' ongoing, small and sudden property needs.

We know higher education, and have worked with universities across the UK and beyond to solve their estates challenges, deliver highly technical environments that attract the top researchers, and student accommodation that caters to an increasingly discerning student.

Turning public spaces into an art form

Creating the Refurbishment Project of the Year in Manchester

Crowned the Building Awards Refurbishment Project of the Year, our work at the University of Manchester's Whitworth Art Gallery drew on our wide-ranging construction skillset. We stripped out and upgraded the Victorian Grade II listed art gallery with modern, highly efficient systems while the gallery remained open to the public. Our extension to the building doubled the public space and created new galleries and visitor facilities, including a learning zone, study centre, art garden and a cafe;. This radical, sensitive and regenerative project was also shortlisted for the RIBA Stirling Prize; one of the highest accolades awarded in architecture.

Rebuild, refurb and revolutionise

Health kick in Bradford

Our specialist construction teams are often required for their full range of new build, refurbishment, fit out and landscaping skills. When the University of Bradford relocated its School of Health to the central city campus, the existing teaching block was in need of an overhaul. We demolished, restructured and stripped back the existing building to provide cutting edge clinical rooms and lab space, adding a stunning four-storey concrete frame extension. We finished the building by adding a kidney-shaped steel framed pod to sit on top of the new building and link all of the new elements together. We then upgraded the car parking and associated external works.

Local teams in global hubs

Providing for the next generation in Asia

We have been instrumental in upgrading educational facilities across Malaysia, Thailand, and Hong Kong. Our network of offices in Asia has delivered a series of school improvement programmes as well as installing new interactive study hubs in places like the City University in Hong Kong. We worked across five buildings at the Taylor’s College campus in Malaysia to provide a state-of-the-art learning experience, including work on the library, student union, restaurants, laboratories, theatres, offices and accommodation. We employ local resources on our international sites and construction specialists who understand what is needed to meet your real estate requirements.

Anytime agile services

Specialist teams for ‘day two’ works

We provide an agile fit out team working in the higher education sector to cater for our customers’ sub-50,000 sq ft works. ISG’s Agility team is smart, fast-moving and responsive. The issue of aftercare can often be overlooked in construction, but we know that your journey does not immediately end at handover. We provide ongoing support to meet your change requirements, helping you to move into your new environment and providing insights on how to build better for the future.

Delivering without disturbance

Working in a live hospital

King’s College London’s Centre for Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine is located on the 28th floor of Guy’s Hospital in a busy part of central London. We are skilled at negotiating complex logistical challenges and working in live environments. This project required making upgrades to the hospital’s base build engineering systems without disrupting the continually operating laboratory located below. We set up a system of strategically phased work with our customers, built on clear communication and respect for those working around us.
