ISG project engineer, Luisa Contini, has won the Power of Women in Construction award at the Power of Women Awards in London, UK.
The Power of Women Awards, which are organised by charity, Dress for Success Greater London, and take place alongside International Women’s Day every year, recognise the success of inspirational women, who have broken barriers to lead the way in their industries and professions, and are inspiring others to follow.
On a fantastic night, which featured The Weakest Link’s Anne Robinson as guest speaker, Luisa received the Power of Women in Construction award for her key role in advocating women in the industry, and championing more flexible working and family-friendly employment across the sector.
On receiving her award, Luisa said: “I'm delighted and honoured to receive this award.
“I feel like tonight we are not only celebrating women, but also men that are our allies, one of them is my dad, who has inspired and always supported my passion for engineering and construction, and never let me feel like there was anything I couldn't do.”
Luisa said that while progress has been made in terms of tackling industry perceptions and attracting greater numbers of women into construction, there is still work to be done.
“It saddens me that there are still stereotypes that imply that women are not suited for working in construction – although things have progressed, and I meet such inspiring women in the sector,” she said.
“There is a long way to go, and one day I hope that young women won't think twice about considering a career where you have to wear a hard hat every day.”
