ISG’s challenging, new build, seven-storey hotel project - located on a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Edinburgh - has been featured in the latest Construction News.
The feature-length article includes an interview with ISG’s senior project manager, Sam Small, who outlines how complex ground conditions has presented an unusual set of challenges.
“This site has been undeveloped for 40 years – there are not manty sites in Edinburgh, probably none, that have gone undeveloped for that long,” Sam said.
The Market Street Hotel site is located in the middle of the Old Town Conservation Area in Edinburgh city central.
As well as working around the logistical challenges presented by an extremely tight site, the project is surrounded by buildings that are between 300 to 400 years old.
Also, a six-week extension was added to the programme when 13th century remains were discovered on site.
The project is scheduled for completion in summer 2018.
