ISG has raised over £27,000 for its UK charity partner, Macmillan Cancer Support, with its inaugural Cycle for Charity event on Thursday 27 September.
With more than 10,000 miles ridden and 360 metres of lycra worn, the incredible total will provide vital funds and awareness for Macmillan.
Bringing together 180 #TeamISG clients, suppliers and people, the riders turned their pedals into pounds for Macmillan, braving 40- and 72-mile routes across the winding Oxfordshire and Berkshire countryside.
Taking place alongside ISG’s fundraising activities for Macmillan's World's Biggest Coffee Morning, Cycle for Charity started and finished at the Redingensians Rams Rugby Club in Reading, UK.
After breakfast and refreshments during the pre-race briefing, the first group of riders set off to navigate the 72-mile ride, followed by the 40-mile riders, where they embarked on a day of riding in 20-degrees of late-September sun.
From registering riders to manning pit stops, filling water tanks, handing out high-energy snacks, sharing updates on social media, and of course, cheering the riders on, ISG couldn't have held the event without the support of all who attended.
A few stats from the day included:
• 10,254 miles ridden
• 360 metres of lycra worn
• 330 water bottles drunk
• 180 riders participated
• 25 volunteers supported
• 20 degrees sunny weather enjoyed
• Nine sponsors made the event possible.
As part of ISG’s two-year partnership with Macmillan and helping us reach our goal of raising £200,000, all funds from the ride have gone directly to the charity, helping to provide emotional support, medical advice, financial guidance and end-of-life care to people living with cancer, as well as support for their families.
ISG business development director, Richard Irwin, said: "The idea for Cycle for Charity came from a large bike ride a few of us attended last year and a number we have been made aware of in the industry.
“The decision to host a charity bike ride was simple and the response from the industry has been fantastic.
“Particularly for me, not only in raising over £27,000, but also in seeing this idea turn into reality – the feedback has been very positive and we have a waiting list for next year already!"
Liam McKay, marketing communications assistant manager, and event organiser, commented: "There was an incredible amount of effort by all involved to make the event a success on the day.
“Blessed by the sun, the coming together of clients, suppliers and ISG people was great to see and the amount raised now draws us closer to our £200,000 target.
“This will make a massive difference to people living with and affected by cancer – well done all.”
