ISG’s latest project for supermarket giant Morrisons has opened its doors to the public at the new location in St Ives, Cambridgeshire.
The St Ives store is the latest in a long line of projects completed over the course of a fruitful ten-year partnership between ISG and Morrisons, a period which has seen over 100 individual projects delivered for the outlet as they continue to strengthen their core supermarket offering.
The store, which was designed by NJSR Chartered Architects and is one of only two concept stores in the UK, opened for business on 8 March.
The highly anticipated 30,000 sq ft supermarket, which also features a petrol station and three large adjacent retail units, has been carefully tailored to meet the needs of the local community, with Morrisons featuring products sourced from local suppliers.
A reconfigured store design sees the bakery, butchers and fishmongers positioned in close proximity to the store entrance, a layout which supports an easy customer experience and provides an open market feel.
During the 26-week project, ISG engaged with a local scout group and primary school, giving presentations to inspire careers in construction, as well as donating top soil to the school to improve its outdoor learning environment.
ISG account director, Lee Spencer, said: “The benefits of working so closely with Morrisons over an extended period means both parties have great knowledge of how the other works.
“This is extremely important when the team looks to push the boundaries and develop innovative solutions, and we have found Morrisons extremely receptive to ideas because of our historic collaboration.
“We have built up a mutual trust whereby Morrisons have confidence in our capabilities to deliver what are often highly complex and logistically challenging projects.”
