The development partners behind ISG’s £33 million student accommodation scheme in Sheffield, UK, travelled across the globe to celebrate the project’s ground-breaking ceremony.

The ceremony marked the first milestone for the project, which will see ISG construct a 586-bed, 14-storey building for global student accommodation developer and operator, Valeo.

Reaching 14 storeys at its highest elevation, the building’s slipform core is already complete, with work now starting on the concrete frame.

The project, which is due for completion in summer 2019, is Valeo’s first in the UK.

Peter Haspel, managing director for Valeo Management, commented: “This event marked a momentous occasion for Valeo.

“It is the first step in our ambitious development plans in the UK, as we continue to bring our passion for providing an unbeatable experience to students across the world - from America, Ireland and the Nordic region, and now the UK.”

Tim Harvey, regional director for ISG’s UK Construction Northeast business, said: “The ground breaking is an important milestone for any development.

“It gives everyone involved in the project - from inception through planning and now delivery - the chance to take a step back and celebrate everything that has been achieved so far.

“We look forward to continuing to drive the project forward, bringing Valeo’s vision to life.”

In a strategic location close to the two Sheffield universities, students will benefit from high-specification and spacious communal facilities, including a ninth-floor central club lounge complete with extensive balcony overlooking the city, as well as lounge and study spaces, a café, private dining areas, TV room and a gym.

Accommodation is configured around four, five and six-bed clusters, as well as a number of studio apartments, all with en-suite facilities.

All bedrooms will benefit from all the latest technologies a student can expect, including super-fast Wi-Fi.

The tiered building was designed by Valeo to provide students with an outstanding residential experience.
