Managing Director, Development
Phil Brown is the managing director of ISG’s development business, established when ISG was taken into private ownership in early 2016. Phil is utilising his front-end expertise and consultancy experience to build a portfolio of innovative projects which will transform spaces. This ranges from student accommodation and mixed-use projects to headquarter office buildings and leisure developments. Currently, this extends to a number of existing real estate investments across the US and a growing portfolio of UK schemes as co-developer with known partners.
Phil joined ISG in 2013 as group risk director, and then moved to the UK construction division as group managing director, where he reshaped and returned the troubled division to a stable, profitable performer. Phil has been instrumental in building the current portfolio of larger construction schemes across the commercial office, hospitality and leisure sectors, as well as growing our capability in high-quality student accommodation.
A civil engineer by background and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Building, Phil has spent the majority of his career leading major projects working for industry leaders such as Mace, Lendlease and Kier, both in the UK and internationally. Phil was also a principal within the Delivery Partner tasked with the successful delivery of the park for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Phil is a cycling enthusiast and sailor in equal measure. His spare time and holidays usually feature one of his passions. In 2016 he led a team of four amateur British cyclists to compete in the Race Across America – the world’s toughest bicycle race – 3,070 miles, 180,000 feet of climbs, 12 states, coast-to-coast across the USA, non-stop. Phil’s team beat the British record, completing the race in just six days and six hours.
