Business Development Director, UK Retail

Phil Armstrong joined ISG’s market-leading UK retail business in early 2016, to lead on key account management and winning work. Phil is passionate about customer care and ensuring that all our clients feel they are receiving a dedicated and tailored service from ISG.

Phil has amassed 37 years' experience in the construction and fit out industry, and has a broad experience of both construction and project management across several sectors. Phil has worked both 'client side' as an advisor, and for main contractors as the lead account manager. He is passionate about attention to detail and thrives on tight programmes. He is recognised as a consultative, hands-on leader.

Phil started out as an apprentice carpenter and joiner. On completion of his apprenticeship he quickly progressed to site management and enjoyed leading on multimillion pound commercial and residential projects local to his then home town of Luton. Nineteen years ago Phil moved 'client side', working for various consultancies in a project management capacity, delivering retail, hotel and restaurant projects. A career highlight for Phil was working for the 235-year-old Asprey brand on its New Bond Street flagship refurbishment – a two-year, 52,000 sq ft, £50m complex refurbishment in Mayfair. Phil held the role of client’s agent and project manager, closely working with a team of talented contractors, architects and consultants, resulting in the delivery of a beautiful, high-quality space. Phil has overseen more than one million square feet of retail space delivered for various clients across the retail and luxury sectors, and has worked on more than 20 hotel and restaurant projects.

Phil is married with two teenagers, and in his spare time he loves mucking about on boats to make sure his weekends take a slower pace.
