Introduction

We have transformed One Mabledon Place, a high-rise building in central London, into a core pathology unit for HSL. The flagship facility is set to deliver the highest standards of clinical pathology services.

Through its partnership with University College London, it will be used as a place for academic innovation, clinical training and research.

As the facility is technically demanding, structural steelwork played a major part in construction. The building is able to to house heavy medical and research equipment, including chillers and diesel rotary uninterruptible power supply devices.

The project

We delivered the design and construction of office accommodation and core laboratory space. Updating the existing high rise building into a state-of-the-art facility required substantial structural alterations and the installation of building services.

Phase one involved work to the building’s structure, core areas and mechanical and engineering plant. We prepared the ground floor and basement areas, and fit out floors one to ten.

The second phase saw the fit out of the ground floor to the 10th floor, plus additional works to the basement areas.

Industry-leading technologies in the facility include CL3 laboratories and a cutting-edge tracking and distribution system. This will enable the efficient management of samples throughout the building.
