ISG Asia wins Malaysia Property Award for outstanding works in a 103-year-old building.
KUALA LUMPUR, November 12, 2008: A project undertaken by ISG Asia, the construction and consultancy services specialist, was named the winning project for the Specialised Project of the Malaysia Property Award 2008 organised by FIABCI (International Real Estate Federation) Malaysia at this evening’s award presentation gala dinner. ISG Asia was conferred the award for its outstanding interior and exterior restoration and fitting out works for The Royal Bank of Scotland Berhad (RBS) (formerly known as ABN AMRO Bank Berhad) branch in Penang, which is located in a heritage building that dates back to 1905.
The Bank in Malaysia was given special dispensation to modify the global standards for branch premises to preserve and fully celebrate the building’s unique architectural heritage and history of use by the company, first as the Netherlands Trading Society, then ABN AMRO Bank, and now as RBS.
In addition, despite the age of the building and the aesthetic feel of the spaces, the current and future needs of RBS were fully integrated into the 103-year-old premises. Modern security and IT requirements central to the Bank’s operations were discretely but completely accommodated as well, invisible to the public eye.
"A number of factors had elevated the project to an award winning status. The fact that the project took into account the restoration of a heritage building while implementing the high standards required for an international financial organisation was one of the primary factors. Equally, our client’s commitment to the community and promotion of the arts was of special importance; the establishment of a gallery space within the branch was another factor for the win," said Paul Marshall, Country Director of ISG Asia Malaysia.
The project was completed in 16 weeks, from receipt of the initial project brief to handing over and the commencement of banking operations; a similar project would have taken between 26 and 35 weeks to complete in the UK or in Europe.
ISG Asia has long been associated with and continues to seek cutting edge and demanding projects. Its unparallelled service level and awards garnered over the years are evidence of its culture and vision of being a leading brand delivering award winning new build, refurbishment and fit out services internationally.
More importantly, ISG Asia recognises that as the company grows, the impact and influence of what it does become increasing significant and it has the bona fide responsibility of ensuring the sustainability of the company, the communities in which it operates in and the environment. Hence, the company’s emphasis on environmental/green construction. In this instance, internal air quality was given a very high priority as part of the Bank’s environmental policy. ISG Asia worked closely with the client to carry out full replacement of all internal air conditioning equipment within the building with non-CFC air conditioning products purchased from Japan. ISG Asia has also recently completed the first LEED-compliant office interior fit out project in Malaysia.
